ExcitingChangesIncomingatGouldAdamsAquaticCentre

We are excited to announce that the Gould Adams Aquatic Centre, a beloved community asset for the past 20 years, is set for a major maintenance works. Logan City Council is committed to ensuring our community has access to safe and quality facilities, and as part of this commitment, we are investing in all three pools at the centre.

As pools age, their shells can deteriorate due to wear and tear. To address this, we will be replacing the pool shell linings of all three pools. The works will also include an internal facility maintenance and a fresh coat of paint to give the centre a new lease of life.

Please note that the centre will be closed for all existing programs while the work is undertaken. But don’t worry, you can still enjoy a swim at the Logan North Aquatic Centre at Underwood, which offers both indoor and outdoor pools.

We understand the importance of minimising disruption to our community, so we have scheduled these works during the cooler months. Here is the proposed timeline for construction:

  • 6th of June 2024: Construction scheduled to start.
  • June to September 2024: Replacement of pool shell lining and renewal/maintenance works of the centre.
  • Mid-October 2024: Construction scheduled to be completed and facility reopened.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time. We can’t wait to welcome you back to a revitalised Gould Adams Aquatic Centre in October 2024! Stay tuned for more updates.

PROJECTFAQs

The pool has been in service for 20 years. With time, the shell of a pool can deteriorate due to wear and tear. In order to guarantee that users have access to facilities that are both safe and of high quality, the Council is undertaking maintenance for all three pools within the facility.

The Council is undertaking the replacement of the shell linings for all three indoor pools, which include the 25m pool, the Learn to Swim Pool, and the Kids Play Pool. Additionally, the internal works of the centre will involve facility maintenance and painting.

The centre will cease all existing programs while the work is in progress. Meanwhile, the nearest alternative is the Logan North Aquatic Centre at Underwood, which offers both indoor and outdoor pools. The council has strategically scheduled these works during the cooler months to minimize disruption.

  • 6th of June 2024: Construction scheduled to start.
  • June – September 2024: Replacement of pool shell lining and maintenance works.
  • Mid-October 2024: Construction scheduled to be completed and facility reopened.

Exciting Changes Incoming at Beenleigh Aquatic Centre

Logan City Council is pleased to advise that Stage 2 of the Beenleigh Aquatic Centre upgrade commenced in March 2024. The project will replace the 60-year-old outdoor pool and buildings to support an active and healthy community.

The Project is identified in Council’s Community Infrastructure Strategy and will complete the upgrades identified in the Dauth Park Masterplan endorsed by Council in 2018.

In July and August of 2022, we asked the community to tell us their needs and vision for a new outdoor pool in Beenleigh. Feedback from close to 400 community members has been incorporated into the design which will include the following:

  • 50m heated pool
  • Expanded children’s play area
  • Shaded seating areas
  • Multipurpose rooms
  • Modern changeroom facilities
  • Kiosk
  • Accessible features including ramps and hoists
  • New carpark

The new outdoor pool is expected to be opened late 2025.

PROJECTFAQs

The existing pool is over 60 years old and nearing the end of its useful life. The upgrade will complete Stage 2 of the Dauth Park Masterplan which was endorsed by Council in 2018.

Based on community feedback from close to 400 respondents, the upgrades will include construction of a new outdoor 50m heated pool, expanded children’s play area, shaded seating areas, multipurpose rooms, modern changeroom facilities, kiosk, accessible features including ramps and hoists and a new carpark. The upgrade also includes a community stage facing Centenary Park for community concerts and events.

The indoor pool will remain open for all existing programs including aqua aerobics and swimming lessons. Council will do its best to manage any impacts on users. Please be aware access to the grassed areas of Centenary Park will be limited during construction and there will be additional noise and minor disruptions which will be proactively managed during construction.

  • March 2024: Construction on the new carpark scheduled to start.
  • April 2024: Outdoor pool will be closed from the 15th of April and demolition of the existing outdoor pool and buildings is scheduled to start.
  • May 2024: Construction of the new outdoor pool is scheduled to start.

The existing carpark will remain open although there is no longer entry or exit from City Road. Entry and exit is now via Alamein Street only. The Existing carpark will close later this year once the new carpark is completed.

Council has pools across the city that residents can access. For more information on community pools and their operating hours visit the this link.

Members can use the Logan North Aquatic Centre during redevelopment.  Access is included in Platinum and Blue memberships. Aqua aerobics will continue to run in the Beenleigh Aquatic Centre indoor pool during construction.

Yes, there will be no changes to swimming lessons.

The Beenleigh Brass Band will be using the Crete Street Theatre during construction and will have access to a storeroom, multipurpose room and stage as part of the new aquatic centre development.
